Lefkada island Athani

Athani has been built at an altitude of 800 meters and is a highly recommended traditional village well known for its pure honey and wine.

Moreover, in the village can be found several taverns, restaurants and small markets that can provide all the necessary that might be needed while being on holidays. The permanent inhabitants of the village during wintertime are not more than 100. Unlike, during summertime the village population is often quadruplicated.

The access to the village can be achieved via an easily drivable way. Athani is nested 36 km from the capital of Lefkas. The drive after the village leads to beaches such as Gialos, Egremni, Porto Katsiki and the well-known Cape of Dukato (Lefkatas).

Beaches - sights

Gialos (3 klm away)

Gialos has the advantage that is the closest one to the village, just three (3) klm away from our Guest house. Gialos, similarly to Egremni and Porto Katsiki, is “equipped” with sun beds and small canteens during the summer.

Egremni (6 km away)

Egremni is considered as one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and in Mediterranean as well. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece and in Europe as a whole. It is famous for remarkably turquoise, clear waters and long sandy beach. Egremni beach is of the longest beaches on Lefkada, stretching for more than 2.5 km. Similar to Porto Katsiki beach, Egremni is surrounded by cliffs and as a consequence, not so easy accessible. Particularly, the beach is finally accessible through almost 300 steps.

Porto Katsiki (9 km away)

Porto Katsiki is one of the most beautiful Greek beaches. It is also in the top of the list of best beaches in Europe every year. It looks truly fascinating surrounded by incredible hills which make it accessible only by 80 steep steps descending along the cliff. This is one of the most favorite beaches and it is considered to be one of the island’s major attractions. Porto Katsiki owes its fame to fascinating landscape and most of all, crystal clear blue sea. Golden sandy beach adds a beauty to the overall impression of Porto Katsiki.

Cape Doukato – Apollo Temple (13 km away)
     
Cape Doukato lighthouse has been built since 1890. Until nowadays, it functions under the supervision of the Hellenic Navy. It can be found 13 km away from our guest house. The scenery and the view of the sunset really worth it!
In the vicinity, you will meet the monastery of Aghios Nikolaos and the remnants of Apollo's Temple which is renowned from the ancient years. There, as considered, Sapfo who is well known for her exceptional poetry, fell down from the white and harsh rock.
